How I Started Teaching
I started out as a Japanese learner. Like many students, I hit a brick wall–until I encountered an app called Human Japanese. For the first time, everything clicked.
The details, humor, and deep care shown in the course design completely transformed my understanding of language learning. I thought to myself: This is it. I want to teach my native language, and I want to teach like this!
Soon after, I enrolled in the WUSTL Asian language teacher training program. I began teaching college-level courses at Stetson University in Florida, earned teaching certifications from both Taiwan and China, and gradually shifted to full-time online teaching.
Looking back, those years flew by in a blink. I was just having fun exploring the hidden rules and secret patterns of my native tongue with curious, dedicated students from all over the world.
Every student offers me a new lens to view the Chinese language. Being part of someone’s journey to fluency lets me relive the “aha” moments I once had with Japanese and English. It is addictive. And that is why I never get tired of teaching.
My Mission
To guide students toward lasting fluency, with less “that’s just the way it is,” and more “here’s the sneaky logic behind this weird rule.”
I believe Chinese doesn’t have to be vague or frustrating. My job is to make things click, with down-to-earth explanations and satisfying lightbulb moments.
If you’re ready to move past robotic memorization and finally understand why Chinese works the way it does, I’d love to help!
